At Studio Taylor on Fairmount, the staff works hard to make each client’s visit easy. Whether clients stop in for a basic manicure or an advanced hair or facial treatment, Studio Taylor guarantees a highly trained technician, stylist or aesthetician will do the job right. In fact, the salon and its staff have earned top ratings from Cleveland Magazine, Scene Magazine and various trade publications.
The salon is in a small shopping center with a neighborhood feel (3463 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44118, 216.397.9643).“It’s like an out-of-Cleveland experience,” said Nancee Taylor, who has owned and operated the salon and spa for more than 11 years. She said, “Our pledge to our community and our clientele is to offer an educated and supportive team to assist clients with their hair and nail and aesthetic skin care needs.” Nancee said, “Clients notice our stylists have been with us since virtually the beginning. When we add new people, they go through our training programs. Clients trust us to always offer them technicians who are well trained.”
Studio Taylor’s complete nail service includes prescription nails, an environmentally friendly replacement for acrylic nails. These synthetic nails are gas permeable and generate fewer fumes than acrylics. Nancee explained, “These are similar to press-on nails but each one is custom-made to a specific size.” At the first appointment for prescription nails, the technician determines the exact size for each nail and saves this information so follow-up appointments are quick. Today’s popular nails are of functional length, rather than overly long. French manicures remain popular but, said Nancee, “We experiment with silver tips on the free edge, or delicate shimmers on the overlay for a beautiful, subtle look.
For facial treatments, Studio Taylor aestheticians use two skin-care product lines: Pevonia Bontanica, and Murad. Both lines include products that only can be applied by licensed aestheticians or cosmetologists, as well as retail products for home use that enable clients to maintain the healthy, radiant skin they had when they left Studio Taylor. Facials at Studio Taylor include facial massage, vitamin C treatment, applications of collagen and elastin, microdermabrasion and more.
Studio Taylor aestheticians also apply Xtreme Lash, super lightweight lash extensions individually glued on. They come in a variety of lengths and with different amounts of curl. “You can be as dramatic or natural as you like,” Nancee said.
Studio Taylor’s hair expertise ranges from cuts, to color and style. To train her hair stylists, Nancee often brings in outsiders including experts in cut and color who recently flew in from Paris and New York. “We do a huge amount of coloring,” said Nancee. “The community trusts us to do creative coloring and corrective color.” In addition, Studio Taylor is committed to reducing environmentally hazardous procedures by using safe products with excellent results. “We’ve almost completely switched to non-ammonia lighteners and colors,” said Nancee. “These are better for hair and for the stylists. There’s nothing dangerous to breathe in.”
Keratin complex therapy is also popular among clients of Studio Taylor. This formaldehyde-free temporary relaxer defrizzes and strengthens hair. “Keratin complex therapy is easier, healthier and more effective than blowing curly hair straight,” said Nancee. “Also, this heals damaged hair and seals in hair color.”
“It’s all about confidence,” Nancee said of the appeal of her salon. “Like if you have a nice suit, shoes or handbag, if your hair, nails and skin are looking good, you feel confident in whatever you do. Even if a woman is not a professional, she knows she doesn’t need to worry about her hair, nails and skin. All our clients – professionals or not – are very busy. They like that we offer current, contemporary styles that are easy to fit into their schedules.

"It really shows that all our hard work has really paid off, we work so hard to make sure we are the best, and that we treat our customers the way we would want to be treated at a high end salon". Studio Taylor on Fairmount: Editors Pick
Hip and modern with its beechwood floors, red and purple decor, softly industrial feel and silver accents, Studio Taylor is the spa of choice for many residents of the Heights and beyond. The 2,080-square-foot facility, which opened seven years ago, was full-service from the start, offering a nice array from massages to facials to hair services. The spa's success, says owner Nancee Taylor, is due to her staff. "I love them," she raves. "We do not have a revolving door."
What We Tried: The Deep Cleansing Facial ($60) and Manicure With Paraffin ($28)
More Than We Expected: Our facial, given by aesthetician Joyce Fennell, was as much about relaxation as it was skin care. To that end, Fennell used hot stones, reiki, soothing music and lots of massage. If you're looking for a facial that's more of an experience, this is it. "She's phenomenal," Taylor says of Fennell. "And she is very spiritual -- in an appropriate way. She does an assortment of extremely relaxing treatments."
The Only Thing Fennell Didn't Do: Extractions. This is not a European-style facial.
What Else to Try: Taylor touts her spa's Raindrop Therapy ($70) as a unique, refreshing treatment. Therapeutic essential oils are dropped along the spinal column, inner foot and inner lower leg, and gently worked into the skin.
Top Treatments: Pedicures, cuts and coloring. "Our hair services are excellent," Taylor says. "We spend a lot of money training our staff."

"My new career requires that I look my best. As a guy, that means frequent haircuts and (gulp!) manicures. I'm used to barber shops and best cuts, so I was a little afraid of going to a salon. The staff seemed very knowledgeable and put me at ease. It's really a beautiful place actually. They could use a few men's magazines, but thats neither here or there. After a while I could understand why women love these places, being pampered is kind of nice! The glass of wine helped too. I'd recommend it to anyone. I gotta tell you they have some lookers in there. Looking forward to my next appointment."

"This intimate salon features the best in hair care. Excellent products and empolyees. Always friendly and helpful. Also excellent staff for brow and eyelash tints, and great massages. Time here is well spent."

"I love going to Studio Taylor, they are very consistant and pleasant. Everything they use there is top of the line, even the coffee. The salon serves wine and tries to make the experience as relaxing as possible. All of the hair stylists seem to do very good work. The salon can work with many different types of hair, it is very convenient."

"I used to go to Studio Taylor in college and I LOVED it. I don't know if they are still there, but Chanel and Karen were the best. Karen gives the best eyebrow and bikini waxes."
